He has worked as a patrol officer since 1989. He is responsible for the defensive/arrest tactics and expandable baton training for the Uddevalla PD.

History

International Police Defensive Tactics Association (IPDTA) was founded in 1996 by Slavo Gozdzik, a police constable in the Swedish Police Force.
IPDTA was created to be a meeting center for officers interested in exchanging the ideas and developing effective unarmed/armed tactics for patrolling police/law enforcement officers.
Over and above his duties both as a patrol and training officer, Slavo has traveled throughout Europe since 1995 to teach self defense. All the while searching for more effective self defense and arresting tactics for patrol officers.
Those travels resulted in seminars for:

  • SWAT team members in Stockholm and Gothenburg/Sweden
  • National Police Academy in Stockholm/Sweden
  • Police Academy in Copenhagen/Denmark
  • CSP Legionowo/Poland - Special Police Training Center
  • Police Academy in Szczytno/Poland
  • Police Academy in Slupsk/Poland
  • Arlington Heights PD/USA
  • Uddevalla Police
  • Bialystok PD, Poland
  • Progress Housing Group
  • Birmingham University
  • Pfizer Pharmaceuticals
  • Royal College of Nursing
  • Lancashire Constabulary (Firearms Training/Officer Safety Training)
  • Derbyshire Police (Officer Safety Training)
  • Devon & Cornwall Police (Firearms Training/Officer Safety Training)
  • Cheshire Police (Firearms Training/Officer Safety Training)
  • North Wales Police (Firearms Training)
  • Merseyside Police (Firearms Training)
  • Grampian Police (Officer Safety Training)
  • Suarez International, USA
  • Border Protection Unit , Bialystok Poland
  • Emergency Unit Members Uddevalla Hospital, Sweden

Meeting with all those officers from different countries gave a general conclusion:

That effective, realistic unarmed, armed combat tactics were missing for patrol and other law enforcement officers.

In 1997 officers of Police Academy in Slupsk/Poland arranged COPS INTERNATIONAL, international training camp for Law Enforcement Officers presenting realistic unarmed tactics for patrolling officers. In June 2005 the aranged COPS International 2005 2:nd edition.
This camp is now a residential training camp arranged each year at the end of May in Puck, Poland.
